Company Profile

TD&M Company, Inc. is a contract-machining house located in New Haven, Indiana.  Since 1958 TD&M has provided machining services to customers in the automotive, heavy and medium duty truck, stove, rubber-molded products and agricultural industries. The firm has been privately owned  through a joint partnership between Robert  Muhn, and Kendallville, Indiana attorney John Pichon for the last five years.

In 1997 company President Robert Muhn determined that in order for this firm to be successful in the future it would be necessary to implement an ISO/QS9000 program.  Starting with the formation of a management team, Mr. Muhn communicated this vision to that body thus forming a focus group mandated to achieve certification by year’s end 1998.

Based on a previous experience that culminated in a false start toward the QS certification in 1996, it was decided early in the new program to utilize the Fast Payback program administered by the Indiana Business Modernization and Technology Corporation (BMT).  With this structured program and the guidance provided by the BMT representatives, TD&M Company, Inc. was able to achieve the goal of certification in December of 1998.

Using this QS9000 knowledge as a baseline for continuous improvement efforts, business operations and strategic growth initiatives, this firm has passed the last two registrar review audits with a “zero findings” status.  Internal audits identified areas that required special focus.  In previous years such trouble areas possibly would have gone unnoticed.  One of these was the need for advanced skills training.  To this end TD&M Company, Inc. implemented a skilled trades apprenticeship program certified by the U.S. Department of Labor and the United Auto Workers union and recognized as one of the most aggressive, comprehensive programs in the region.

Based on the current requirements of the automotive industry, TD&M Company became ISO certified in 2004.

External quality defects have become almost non-existent due to an increased quality awareness by the employees at the process work centers.  On time delivery has improved to a level in excess of 98%, with a goal of 100% by this years end and preventative/predictive maintenance programs are managed in a real-time environment.  These improvements are due to the installation and implementation of a computerized LAN and a business management software solution that was identified as a key investment requirement by the cross-functional quality planning team.

TD&M Company, Inc. has progressed dramatically over the last few years because we believe strongly in our mission statement.  “TD&M is committed to furnishing top quality and value with constant improvement in all our daily work.”  We also find this approach works just as well outside of the shop as a personal growth philosophy for our growing family of stakeholders.
